Escaping Cultivation Lawn after lawn, uniform, watered, fertilized, treated with pesticides. Kept carefully at the desired height. No surprises, no disturbing variations. All is under control.
Anything that does not fit the ideal must be eliminated. None of that dollarweed, spiderwort, or random tiny flowers. And therefore no butterflies, honeybees, birds, or nighttime diggers looking for grubs. But those unwanted (and maybe threatening) inhabitants are simply living in the world, as they have done since long before we arose. Life on Earth is filled with diversity. In what ways have you been kept uniform, trimmed-to-fit, cleaned up, smoothed out? |
